Shhhhh… I’m Undercover at The 5th Ave Apple Store In NYC

April 2nd, 2011 Jonathan No comments

One thing I knew to expect from a video like this was that people would question me if I hated Apple. As I’ve always said  I don’t and actually appreciate any innovative company. The fact is Apple has created numerous successful products. Where I disagree with them is the misinformation they put out regarding Adobe Flash. If what they said was true and they could back it up I would gladly leave the issue alone but I continue to get questioned about the use of Flash so the easiest way for me to prove Apple doesn’t provide the public with factual information on this topic was to talk with people who work for them. And when I say Apple I’m talking about the corporate office piping the information to their retail stores. After talking with a few sales people I could tell that in the world of Apple information regarding Flash is almost one sided. Even the few I talked with that wanted to tell me that Flash wasn’t so bad still managed to tell me a bunch of things about Flash that weren’t true.  I’m not trying to change minds with this video. I’ve watched numerous presentations from Adobe and am confident in what the technology has to offer. With that being said I don’t think most people would take the time unless this is your career and you care about being correct when you talk to your colleagues. Which really gets to why I created this blog and the YouTube channel. I don’t write or produce content so I can have people question whether it’s true or not. I actually work pretty hard at getting my information correct and from the best resources I have available. With something like Adobe Flash it’s just not a debatable topic. If companies like Apple want to share other opinions about it that’s fine but I did think it would be entertaining to give a more public viewing of the conversations that go on in the world of Apple.

Google Making Announcements Regarding Chrome Today

December 7th, 2010 Jonathan No comments

Just read on TweekDeck that Google has some “exciting announcements” to make about Chrome. The live webcast will be shown on their YouTube channel. I’ll be back after watching it, find out what all the excitement is about!

So a lot has been talked about in the Google presentation. Google is really trying to improve search and make it even faster as they’ve always spoken about. They also spoke about rolling out a notebook running Chrome OS. Chrome OS is all about using the internet and so you would be buying a laptop only intended for that. The notebook will be capable of a 3g  connection, they were showing Verizon as a partner in this with prices starting at 9.99 for data plans. They made sure to announce that you would not have to have a contract with Verizon and it’s up to you when you want to purchase your data. Security was also another big objective for Google in this project. Wanting users to know they are providing a safe and secure experience with Chrome OS. The more I hear about Chrome OS I can’t help but think about Android and why not combine the two. Instead of just putting a 100% effort into Chrome OS on a notebook. Well, after all I heard I am impressed with the advancements Google is making and it’s quite obvious that Chrome is advancing, like I said about Firefox , these two search engines are taking over search.

Catching The Adobe Max Webcast

October 22nd, 2010 Jonathan No comments

Another Adobe Max event is starting tomorrow and unfortunately with my work schedule I cannot be in California for it. Not a problem though Adobe will be broadcasting a live webcast of the keynotes. You can register here to get the link for the webcast. Events like Adobe Max are pretty interesting because they really do bring together some great minds to discuss the future of various mediums. Already people are talking about the next batch of Adobe software and I’m sure we’ll hear what Adobe has planned for the future. It’s hard to believe but I’ve been using the Adobe software for a little over ten years now and the technology has only gotten better. I think it’s safe to say mobile development will be a huge topic of conversation at Max. Enjoy the webcast and I’ll be back to discuss some of my thoughts on the keynotes!

Froyo 2.2 For The Samsung Vibrant Galaxy S Phone – Latest News…

October 22nd, 2010 Jonathan No comments

I haven’t been waiting that long for Android’s Froyo 2.2 for the Samsung Vibrant but after reading some of what Samsung has been releasing I would of expected to have it on the phone by now. From what I’ve heard the original date was set for the end of the September then moved to the end of October. Samsung is saying the release will be done by each carrier. Even more recent people are reporting that the update will come by the end of the year. I don’t know about you guys but this is almost pushing me to just root the phone and install it myself, something I’ve been avoiding. I’ve rooted other phones before and it’s not the biggest deal but honestly how hard is it to release an update. If anything I would think an update via download would of been the quicker solution. So what do you guys think? Have any of you rooted your Samsung Vibrants and if your running Froyo 2.2 already how is working out?

Samsung Mobile Spain Reports Froyo Update for Galaxy S Phones In October

September 23rd, 2010 Jonathan No comments

A few days ago Samsung Mobile in Spain announced on Facebook that the Android 2.2 Froyo update for Galaxy S phones would be available sometime in October. The talk now is, what happened to that message Samsung put on Twitter saying that it would be released in September. Personally I can wait for the update because the Galaxy S phone I own(Vibrant) is running fine and the update will just make it better. That being said it is a little bit annoying when Samsung releases news in another market with conflicting information. Before I go joining those who are already trashing Samsung I’m going to wait until the end of this month. I think Samsung USA should verify the information that was announced in Spain, it would be good PR. If any additional information becomes available I’ll post more on the blog.

Android Froyo 2.2 For The Samsung Galaxy S Phones

September 20th, 2010 Jonathan No comments

If your like me and own a Samsung Galaxy S phone your probably waiting for the Android 2.2 Froyo update. Unless you’ve rooted your phone and installed one of the roms out there with the update! I’m waiting for the actual release. Samsung originally made the announcement via Twitter that the update would arrive sometime in September. Since we only have ten days left in the month I figured I would mention the month is almost over. Most people agree that the update will be released this month but I also heard that Samsung doesn’t have the best track record releasing these updates as scheduled. I hope they release it within a reasonable amount of time. For anyone not familiar with the Froyo 2.2 update Google has a pretty useful short video explaining it. The talk regarding this update is that Flash will be enabled in the browser…after installing the Flash player available in the Android market. It’s pretty interesting how they worked this out. If you go to the market now and your not running Android 2.2. and you type in “Adobe Flash” you will not get any results for a player. Basically if your os is not meant to have the player, your not going to get it. So bottom line for all of us waiting, well we have some things to look forward to in 2.2. Faster os, faster browser, and a new updating feature for your installed apps where you can run multiple updates at once. The new update also includes some enhancements to the API and services that will give developers even more capabilities producing applications for Android. That’s about all I’ve read or watched about this 2.2 update. Now let’s wait for Samsung to release it for the Galaxy S phones!

Google Instant Bringing Search Even Faster

September 10th, 2010 Jonathan No comments

If you thought Google was your favorite search engine because it was so fast you’ll be happy to know it got a lot faster this week. A new feature called Google instant was added to the search. This new addition to Google will allow you to type in search terms and as your typing the page will populate with results. For those not interested in this you can turn the feature on and off.  After it’s launch users started to question how people will get to the top of Google and what this makes for those who use Google advertising services like Adwords. Google Analytics user’s were also concerned about what this feature will do to their site’s popularity. Well it changes nothing in the game of marketing or position of your site with Google. Who says? Well Google announced today that it doesn’t. With all the questions they were getting they wanted to address  some of the more popular concerns with Google Instant. You can read the posting by Google here. It was also announced that Instant Search is coming to mobile devices in the near future. For now you can use the new feature in browsers that are compatible with handling this such as FireFox or Chrome. I believe most people are concerned with only the big companies owning the first page. But really, isn’t that the case already? The big companies investing in online marketing will always be the ones to own the search engines. And it’s not always paying for clicks, marketing a website goes far beyond just paying for that spot. Web development in itself is a marketing tool for those trying to gain an audience. Anyways Google is the top search engine and with new enhancements like Instant it will continue to stay ahead of it’s competition.
